Hi all, and welcome to the blog. Today we will discuss what kind of dice you need for a game of Dungeons and Dragons, what dice are included in our 7 dnd dice sets, and how you use them.
So while our seven dnd dice sets include all the dice you need to get started, you might want to supplement those with additional d6 dice for spell usage.
So the dice required in dnd are the following:
- D4
- D6
- D8
- D10
- D12
- D20
- D%
D4
So the D4 is used to work out the damage of smaller weapons like daggers and clubs and is also for healing spells. So basically, if you are playing as a Rogue, you will be using a D4 a lot as Rogues tend to duel wield daggers, and because of their sneak attack, they can do significant damage even with a dagger
So basically, the number after the D refers to the number of sides the dice has, so a D4 has four sides, D6 six sides, D8 eight sides etc. A side note is do not leave this dice on the ground as it feels like a dagger if you step on it.
D6
The D6 is a six-sided dice that you are probably very familiar with from other dice games, monopoly. This is the dice that you will probably want multiples off, especially when casting spells. There are lots of spells that inflict multiple instances of D6 damage.
So, for instance, a spell may say that it does 4D6 damage, which means if you only had one D6, you would have to roll that D6 four individual times to work out the total damage.
D8
The D8 is predominantly used for larger weapons and cantrip spells to determine how much damage they do. If you don’t have a D8, you can use two D4s to accomplish the same result as having a D8 but considering that standard sets of dnd dice come with a D8 and D8, there’s no reason not to have one.
D10
The D10 is a ten-sided dice often used in combination with the D% dice. It is used primarily for determining damage with larger weapons and more powerful cantrips like Eldritch Force that the Warlock uses.
Remember that if you real zero on the D10 and 00 on the D%, that is a roll of 100%, not snake eyes.
D%
As discussed above, the D% dice determines the percentage of something occurring.
D12
The D12 dice is used to work out the damage for massive weapons carried by the barbarian. Yes, the barbarian is so cool that she gets her dice.
D20
The D20 is one of the most iconic dnd dice, taller than the other dnd dice because of the number of sides. This dice is used to work out anytime an attempt to do something is successful.
This includes many things, from attacks to skill checks, ability checks and saving throws. In terms of attacking, after you roll a D20 to see if you successfully hit an enemy, you will use another dice to determine the hit’s damage.
